I can make 10000 gold a day just goofing around with henchman on missions. That doesnt count any drops i may get while goofing around. If you pick up every item dropped for you and sell to merchant alone with exeception of good and rare drops you will find cash to not be a problem even as a casual player. Or at least its been the case for me.

That said, if you're screwing around with a henchman all day, you probably aren't a casual player.

You can play the commerce game if you're good at it. Districts are the best thing that ever happened to the financial aspect of an MMO-type game: Advertise your product for 5min per district, and run around Ascalon in each active district trying to purchase materials cheap. Some players are stupid enough to sell them to you cheaper than a trader will buy 'em.

Overprice your wares to start. When someone says "Wow, you're a dumbass, no thanks," lower the price for them to something more reasonable. But the fact of the matter is that a lot of very wealthy players will run around the game dishing out oodles of cash for even blue items.

Kill shit. If you hate grinding, then tough luck.

Learn to sell stuff the right way. DO NOT USE "WTS, WTB, PST," EVER. A lot of players understand your lingo, granted, but you sound a lot more mature when you type out "Looking to sell off a Longsword, priced at 500 Gold, send me a whisper if you're interested; I'm by the Merchant." There are two advantages to doing this: Firstly, you sound like you're older then ten, and secondly, you use more words, thus making your block of text in the chat window larger. This makes it more probable for someone to actually read your message, as its BIG, and thus will get more attention.

DON'T TYPE IN CAPITALS.

Use correct grammar, you should.

/\/0 1337!!!

Use exclamation points! Its a subtle way for your words to sound exciting! A good reader will make a sentence sound better with exclamation points at the end! Do not over-use exclamation points! This will annoy people!

Don't ramble on JUST for length. Say what you have to say and no more. We don't need to hear about your girlfriend's boobs or the fact that your mommy hates you. Quite frankly, the general populace doesn't give a ****. So don't bother telling your life story.

Don't flame people. If someone says something you don't like, ignore it, go to another district, advertise elsewhere. Flaming will only reduce the number of your potential customers.

Use whatever color everyone ISN'T using. Its okay to advertise a product on "ALL" chat, its okay to advertise a product on "SALE" chat. If people are talking on ALL, use SALE, if people are selling a lot of stuff on SALE, use ALL so your words stand out in the differnet colored font.

Know your audience. It can be a tactic to WHISPER your target players when selling your items- but it can also be annoying. If you're selling a sword, whisper an appropriately leveled warrior with your offer. This tactic often doesn't work in Guild Wars because whispers look too much like party chat, and the point of this is to be able to stand out in the chat window, so you may want to use this tip sparringly because many players find it quite annoying.

When in a crowd of players, /JUMP! ...okay, so this isn't of that much worth, but if you need to draw attention to yourself, it tends to work better than /dance.

HOCK IT. Ask teammates for their vendor trash (crud items worth 3gp that only vendors will take) and they may give it to you, as it may free up their inventory space. You can then hock it at a vendor.

If you're pre-searing, keep killing grawls for their armor and salvaging it. You can accumulate massive amounts of materials post-searing this way.

very well sed topgun,i also found it quite successful to go to a high level mission and do it a couple times for drops, bows that are 20+ dmg and swords that are 17+ sell good at piken square nolani academy and surmia, 300-500 a piece

As for my personal opinion, not enough demand for hammers, they are too common. axes are starting to get good to sell, if you get a low damage blue purple or gold sword, expert salvageit for the hilt, and add it onto a higher damage one to make it look better, then sell it for a bit more

I don't see anything wrong with the WTS/WTB lingo... everyone knows what it means and it reduces the amount of junk you have to read, draws attention towards the item for sale instead. Of course it's ultimately up to you, but I don't think many people have issues with WTS/WTB unless you're spamming with it.

I've heard a lot of people complain about people selling in the general chat channel, so keep an eye on your audience with this one - it may just piss people off into ignoring your sale :S

Like others have said, farming is basically the best way to go about it. Go kill things, especially that which is lower level than you - easy kills and you'll still get whatever they drop. Heck, by making my warrior run around and kill low-level things while on mission, I've gotten 6 plat and I just got her to Nolani yesterday - and I wasn't even trying to accumulate cash.

If you're advertising, you're spamming. No "if"'s, "and"'s, or "but"'s. The whole "WTS" crud is just that, crud. Its boring, unimaginitive, and blends in with the millions of other abbreviations our poor eyes get bombarded with. Its because of these "shortcuts" I run around with most of my channels turned off.
I'm still new to the whole "saleman" thing, but being human has really been working out for me. Not just being human, (as silly as this sounds), but being courteous too -- which is a rarity in the gaming community. But as far as those abbreviations goes, they are the reason we have those nice little check boxes.

I say, if you're gonna spam something, at least entertain me when doing it.

One thing that's worked in the selling department is this:

I have one character who strictly sells weapons, shields, etc. I have made roughly 2 or 3 Platinum in 2 days just selling off excess goods REALLY cheap. I also have another character who sells, buys, and trades dye. I buy them at half the merchant price, then sell them 100gp less. This is an easy way to make a few platinum.

My main character, a level 20 Warrior locates all of my good items. You can find them easily by hunting with a large group of friends and trading each other for dropped loot that you'd like to have.

Now, when selling this is what I tend to do:

|| Buying, selling, and trading all manner of dyes! See me by the Dye Trader for details! ||

Now... I did a few things here... I used || to distinguish myself from the normal "WTS:" crowd... I used professional lingo like "manner of dyes", and then I set myself up in a conveniant spot. If I'm selling dyes, why not stand by the Dye Trader?

My weapon dealer I might stand by the Weaponsmith, or Armorsmith. Customers are already going there for similar items, I might as well become a second source for them.

Well all else fails... and you hate selling... join a group and hunt or run missions. You'll find that you can easily pick up 500gp - 2p just running continuous quests or missions.

*Added Note* Also... if you're looking to sell, for the love of everything that is holy... don't spam your sales. Type it and send it... then wait a minute or so (for your text to leave the chat box and others to pop in) then ctrl+up to the text and send it again. All of those idiots that:

Joe Blow: WTS DRAGON SWORD!!!!!
Joe Blow: WTS DRAGON SWORD!!!!!
Joe Blow: WTS DRAGON SWORD!!!!!
Megan: Yeah, I wanted to do...
Joe Blow: WTS DRAGON SWORD!!!!!
Joe Blow: WTS DRAGON SWORD!!!!!

They are NEVER taken seriously. I usually end up putting them on my ignore list. Be professional and courteous.

TOP GUN & VOREC,

thanks, all said was very useful and informative. Let me see if i understand this and forgive my ignorance. On trading...you can own two characters say one high lvl and one low lvl and trade between the two?

What you can do is... and I'm not sure if they intended on this or not... but you can view your storage for ALL characters. Meaning, if you place a sword into storage then change characters... that character for 50gp (one time fee) can access that same storage container and remove it.

That's what I do. I drop my weapons in there, and change to the Weapon vendor to sell. Same with the dyes.

Can you explain how to change colors please. I like the idea but do not know how this is done. Thanks. I agree with you on everything else. People that use too many acronymns are a pain in the ass and lazy IMO. Yes I did that for humor. Couldn't resist.

He/she wasn't saying to change your font color... what was meant is if everyone is selling ALL, turn to the TRADE channel. Instead of white text it now becomes blue (as long as the listeners don't have that particular channel muted).

I've seen people type out messages in "ALL" in different colors. One guys message looked like a freaking rainbow.

I think what he means is kill them over and over and collect the dropped gold. This would require you to be a strong player and above the level of those you're killing (while doing it alone, no henchmen).

1. No...
2. Yes...
3. Level 8 is a rough start to be farming. Maybe someone can give you some insight on your particular profession (or check the profession threads on various boards).

You really wont need too much money at the start of things. When you get to Lion's Arch you'll want to start saving for the more exspensive armor. Obviously, if you plan to start a guild you'll want the registrar fee and the cape fee if you want one (which is 2p).
